KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA
KRISHI VIGYAN kENDRA (KVK) is an institutional project conducted by Gandhi Vidya Mandir and funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. Established in 1992 at Sardarshahr, KVK works on the identification, assessment and implementation of location specific technologies for adoption by the farming community through On-Farm Testing, Front Line Demonstration and Vocational Training in crop production and allied enterprises.

The KVK has six important divisions to cater to the needs of the farmers and other associated stakeholders who use land and water for their livelihood. A Training Associate heads each of the section with the duties of technology transfer, training and refinement.
KVK functions through the following divisions:
  • Agronomy
  • Animal Science
  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Horticulture
  • Agricultural Extension
  • Home Science
All the divisions conduct "On-farm Testing" in their respective areas for identifying location-specific sustainable land use system. They also organise training to update the existing personnel with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis, including short and long term vocational training courses in agriculture and allied vocations for the farmers, women and rural youth with emphasis on "learning by doing" for higher production on farms and generating self-employment.

Front line demonstrations on various crops generate production data and feed back information. It is one of the most service-oriented activities of the institution in entire district (Churu) with an objective of serving the farming community. Farm advisory services are provided free of cost, on request. It regularly participates in the exhibitions, 'kisanmelas', seminars, symposia, conferences, group discussions among other activities. Field tours to agriculture research institutes, colleges and progressive farmers' plots are regularly conducted for farmers. The staff members of KVK regularly publish extension literature and articles in journals; deliver radio and TV talks related to agriculture and allied activities.
